Be the band behind the idols

Samsung wanted to leverage their headline sponsorship of South African Idols outside of the traditional ad breaks. So the idea to create a talent show within a talent show gave rise to ‘The Band Behind The Idols’. We auditioned musicians to compete for their place in the band playing for the Idols contestants.

Announcing the band members and winning name during the live shows earned Samsung a much larger share of the airtime and gave them a voice in the conversation.

Case study

We auditioned musicians (drummers, bassists, guitarists, keyboardists and wildcards) at COPA campuses and encouraged online entries via sponsorship TVCs, online media, and supported this through social media channels.
